Most French verbs are inflected in either of three patterns. However, many of the most frequent verbs, such as 'être' ('be'), 'avoir' ('have') and 'faire' ('do') are irregular. There is no equivalent to English progressive form in French: whenever that form is used in English, ordinary present tense forms are used in French. The three conjugations, to which all French regular verbs belong, are:
Please note that most irregular verbs end in -er, -ir or -re, as well. The only exceptions consist of verbs ending in -oir. Verbs belonging to the first group, which is by far the most common one, are inflected as follows in the present tense:
