The French genitive is expressed by using expressions with the preposition 'de'. When 'de' precedes a masculine noun with a definite sense noun, 'de' and the definite article 'le' are merged to 'du'. When it precedes a noun with an indefinite sense which begins with a vowel, the 'e' is dropped to form a 'd'' In the case where 'de' precedes a plural noun with a definite sense, it is merged with the definite plural article 'les' to 'des'.
