Munich (München)
If you are in Munich for any amount of time, probably the best way to get an introduction to the area is to take a tour from Mike's Bike Tours. They have really fun and knowledgeable people who show you around on a fleet of new Schwinn cruisers.
To find out what's going on in Munich, get the magazine GO> or Prinz. Both are 2DM each and avaiable in any kiosk, magazine store and gas station. GO> is a little fresher, whereas Prinz is almost too smooth.
If you just want to go out where there is lots to do, check out kunstpark ost, a huge area of a former indistrial bakery, that is now teeming with bars, restaurants, clubs, discos, studios, movies, a skate park, an indoor climbing center and more.
Vegetarian Restaurants in Munich
Mama's Kebab House. OK, it's not a vegetarian restaurant, but it has many veggie choices. This is where I have been going lately for quick eats during the day. They are also open very late. The service is rude, but the selection is large. The low point is the bread, it never tastes fresh. In a nice, bohemian part of town. Good for people watching on the outdoor seating and late night after party munchies. Turkey Kebab, but mostly vegetarian. Behind Münchener Freiheit, one block from the U-Bahn.
Cafe Ignaz in Munich. Indoor and outdoor seating. Somewhat ugly inside and one of the plants was even plastic! The food was pretty good. The dishes were vegetarian using traditional German ingredients. There is a sweets shop/bakery up front with carry-out items. I don't quite know what to make of this place. I may go back once again, but it'll never be a favorite. Georgenstr. 67 80799 München 089/27 16 093
Ruffini. Very tasty food, but modest portions and slightly pricey. The desserts are a must. Nice atmosphere, especially on the rooftop terrace. Order your food and then wait. When it is ready, carry it to your table yourself, there is no table service. 22 Orff str. (at the corner of Orff and Ruffini, hence the name.)
Germany has a great ride-sharing system. You can save money and meet interesting people. If you are driving somewhere, call them up and tell them where you're going. If someone takes you up on your offer, you pick them up at the MFZ office and they pay you a set fee. If you want to go somewhere, call them or check www.mitfahr2000.de and see if you're interested in anything.
In Munich, their office is located at Laemmer street 6, right near the hauptbahnhof (main train station).
If you're into BMW motorcycles, the factory shop is on Frankfurter Ring. There is a BMW museum near the 1972 olympic park, but it's kind of dissapointing, unless, i guess, you're a real BMW freak. For cheaper, but high quality repairs and used parts, (but mostly for 2-valve airheads) check out Mani's Garage in the middle of the Munich suburbs at:
