Icarus trail, Fruita, Colorado
The Icarus Trail is a pretty epic trail for it's short distance, with tons of steeps and some good exposure in the middle. I'm not sure it this trail has been blessed by the BLM yet, so be extra careful.
We rode the icarus trail on the tail end of the Fruita Fat Tire festival 2002. It was the earliest that Troy and Susan of Over the Edge have ever been able to run it, because of the light snowfall in 2002. It is a killer trail with lots of steeps and some beautiful exposure. It was a great crew of people, 27 in all. We blasted down in a pretty tight formation, never waiting on people for more than a minute. I've never seen cohesion like that before, it was awesome. We shuttled to the top and left two cars at the bottom. I was told that Hurl rode up the paved pass road and then did the trail, all on a rigid single-speed. That's not my idea of fun. Pete Fagerlin was on the ride and filmed it. He'll hopefully have a video edited soon. The trail is definitely close to the top of sweetest rides, and I think that a lot of other people thought the same. Get directions to the trail from Troy Rarick's staple-bound guide book that you can get at Over the Edge sports in Fruita.
