If you are interested in going to Fruita or Moab on weekends from Denver, I will be operating a bus from Denver to Moab most weekends from February to June.

Buy Mountain Biking Grand Junction and Fruita More than just the bookcliffs and the Kokopelli trailhead loops: This book covers Rabbit Valley, areas north of Grand Junction and more.
Buy Colorado Atlas and Gazeteer These whole-state map collections are great for finding new places, getting unlost in your car and tons of other uses. This one is 1:160,000 scale, so it's not what you're looking for for backpacking or things like that.
Buy Colorado from the acclaimed Mountain Bike America series. Covers all areas of Colorado.

Fruita, Colorado

Get the brand new book by Troy Rarick (owner of the only bike shop there (Over the Edge Sports), creator of the Fat Tire Festival, Edge Cycles, Trail Creator, BLM Liaison and Diplomat, Fruita Native, and much more!) along with the best map of the area from Latitude 40 and save!

Fruita Combo: Guide Book & Map

You can also buy these items individually, or check out other maps and trail guides in the new store.

This is a brand new update, on what was, for a long time, a stapled, copied bunch of pages that kept on growing. This new book is not only easier to use, and much more attractive, but includes much more content. There aren't too many other guidebooks to the area, but this makes the others not even be choices.

Fruita has taken the world by storm in the last ten years. No other place has become so well known so quickly, and for good reason. There are two main riding areas, the Bookcliffs (north of town), and the Kokopelli's trailhead area (take I-70 West one more exit). Both have a well developed trail system. Add to this the Rabbit Valley singletracks (great singletrack that runs off of OHV roads at the Rabbit Valley exit, near the Utah border), then throw in great trails like the Ribbon (outside of Grand Junction), and the epic Icarus, and you have a fantastic variety of trails to choose from.

My favorite trails in the area are in the Kokopelli's Trail area.

Pete Fagerlin has a travelogue with lots of photos and a video from Fruita Fat Tire Fest 2002.

Fruita can get hot, but can be ridden when Moab gets a bit too hot, or do the Mary's Loop/Horsethief Bench combo on your way to or from Moab to get a feel for the area. (that's my recommendation!)

Over the Edge Sports maintains a trail conditions page.

Click on the map to see a bigger(307Kb) version. See the local BLM offices to get a 11" x 17" print. I'll try and get a pdf print version out in the next coupla months.

Click on the map to see a bigger(301Kb) version. This is the other side of the same map above that you can get from local BLM offices. I've never ridden the bookcliffs, so it'll be some time before I get any content on this.

I rode the Icarus trail at the 2002 Fruita fat tire festival, and it was the best group ride experience that i've ever had. 27 people and we all stayed together the whole time on a killer trail!
