Grand Junction, ColoradoSuehiroSuehiro Japanese Restaurant541 Main Street Grand Junction, CO, 81501 970-245-9548 My friend Tim that I was travelling with is a sushi nut, so his friends that own the Mesa Theater took us out to sushi at Suehiro (right across from the Mesa Theater). I know that fresh fish is not on anyones mind travelling through the high plains a thousand miles from the nearest ocean, but this place was good. I was a little dissapointed to find out that it was a chain, but I coulnd't really tell from my visit. It doesn't have the sterility of most chains, and the food is definitely way better and more varied than I could ever expect from a chain. Pablo's PizzaPablo's PizzaSpecialty and Traditional Pizza 319 Main Street Grand Junction, CO, 81501 970-255-8879 Last time I drove through Grand Junction, Suehiro was closed. We asked around, and decided on Pablo's Pizza and were not dissapointed. It's named after Picasso, and decorated with some Picasso imitations. The building has a great feel, with new furnishings and lamps, but still has the old tin ceiling. The pizzas were creative and very good. We had the vegetarian and the cajun chicken. I'll definitely be back there again.
Nepal restarurantNepal restarurant257 North 5th Street Grand Junction, CO 81501 970-242-2233 I was glad to hear that Grand Junction had a Nepalese restaurant! It seems to be in an office building, and doesn't have much character on the outside, but they've made a good effort to give it some character on the inside. I don't think that i've ever been dissapointed with Nepalese food and wasn't here. I'm not an expert, but both dishes i tried were very good. Sorry if this revue kinda sucks, i forgot to write the revue right afterwords, and am writing from memory. Café BiltmoreCafe Biltmore356 Main Street Grand Junction, CO 81501 970-263-4354 Grand Junction has so much potential. Main street has everything, and the area is filled with cool outdoorsy people, so why is it so dead feeling? If we're lucky, Cafe Biltmore may be the first of other trendy places to hang out downtown. It's a little too trendy for my taste, but exactly what Main street needs to help give it more life. Beer, wine, and some interesting and surprisingly good tappas-like appetizers. Rockslide Brew Pub & RestaurantRockslide Brew Pub & Restaurant401 Main Street Grand Junction, CO 81501 970-245-2111 Rockslide is pretty standard fare for a micro-brewery restaurant. It's definitely a needed part of main street, but isn't really any different from most other Colorado brewery/restaurants: Good beer, fried food, a vague outdoor sports theme, and booth, table and bar seating. Blue Moon Bar & GrilleBlue Moon Bar & Grille120 North 7th Street Grand Junction, CO 81501 970-242-4506 I couldn't figure this place out... They couldn't decide between diner and sports bar, so they did both, and it doesn't work for me. The statue out front is a mystery of taste, which is exactly how I felt about the interior. Pub Crawl! There is a Pub Crawl in GJ! You should join the fun! Odd numbered Thursday's we meet at the GJ Over The Edge store between 6:30 and 7pm... or meet on the 300 block of main street between 7-8pm (look for bikes, often at Cafe Biltmore) and then off to the Ale House after 8pm. Grand Junction downtown has three breakfast places and we ate at one of them, also on Main st., but I forgot the name of it. There's a Mexican place across the street (Fiesta Guadalajara) from the REI that I had tried once and didn't really like at all. That's fine, because as REI has gone super-corporate I'm trying to stay away, so I'll be shopping at alternatives like Summit County Mountaineering, also on Main street. The only way that I know of to get to Main street is to take the 6 & 50 exit heading south, and go a couple of miles. At a fork, turn right (not up an exit ramp, a regular fork) and get in the left lane. Main street will be a left turn. Places on or near Main Street that I haven't checked out:il Bistro Italiano400 Main Street Grand Junction, CO, 81501 970-243-8622 Boomer's Night Club 436 Main Street Grand Junction, CO, 81501 970-248-9022 Boomer's seemed pretty full every time that i passed by, but it didn't draw me in. The crowd seemed older and more conservative - kinda like a Denny's crowd.
